Cooling caps I'm just about to start chemo and am trying to decide whether to use this method to try and keep my hair has it worked for you.
Hello
A warm welcome to the Macmillan Community, although equally, very sorry that you find yourself here.
I am from the breast group but I didn't need chemotherapy (just radiotherapy), so I can't answer your question regarding their effectiveness but I'm not sure what type of cancer you have been diagnosed with you. I have linked the breast group in case you have breast cancer as many, many ladies on this group have used the cold cap method to prevent hair loss and you will find a wealth of experience in this group. The breast cancer group is by far the busiest group on this site as it seems to be the most prevalent. If you click the green link and +join, you can post your question in this group.
If you have a different form of cancer and wish to pose the question to others who have the same type as you, if you go to "groups' and type in the search word, it will bring up the relevant groups and you can follow the same instructions above for joining and posting.
You have a section, having joined Macmillan, for your profile which if you fill in some details it will help anyone who is able to support you when they answer your questions. If you want to see my example, just click on my name. Dates help a lot on a profile as quite often people will fill in their profile without dates and then they have moved on several years without updating their profile. Often then, the answers may not make much sense to them because people are responding based on the 'early years'.
Kindest wishes,
Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community
Could I point you in the direction of the chemotherapy group which you could join and then post your question about using a cooling cap.
To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'join this group' on the page that opens. You can post your question after selecting 'start a discussion' and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
You may find though that's it's better to talk to others in a cancer specific group so if you feel able to tell me what type of cancer you're being treated for I could suggest a group for you to join. Alternatively clicking here will take you to the list of groups.
When you have a minute it would be really useful if could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
