My husband has just been diagnosed with cancer. He is forgetting everything. Is it the painkillers or should I say to the doctor?
Hi and welcome to the Online Community, although I am sorry to see you finding us and so sorry to hear about your husband.
It all depends on what type of medication he is getting, I would be surprised if straight forward pain relief would do this but some of the strong Opioid based pain relief can play tricks with the mind. If he is getting any chemo this also can be an issue but do mention all issues to your medical team.
You don’t say what type of cancer your husband has but if you check this link to our Cancer specific support groups you can talk with people who understand
Just follow the link above, find the best group then hit ‘Join the Group’ tab just under the main group name, then go to the 'Start a Discussion' tab and set up your own Discussion and introduce yourself to the group.
As I was the person with the cancer my experience of supporting someone is very limited, although my wife has been amazing over my 20 years. You may also find our Careers Only and be Friends and Family groups a good place where you can connect with others support family through their cancer journey but more importantly the carers care for each other.
