Hi everyone,
I feel as if I am in limbo at the moment, but every now and again the stitches in my leg remind me they yes it’s real ,and sometime soon there’s a possibility my life will change .
keeping busy and have not read yet on what treatments I may be offered. Possible sticking my head in the sand a bit.
as to be honest I’m scared.
don’t really have anyone who I can say what I really feel to as my husband has depression and my sons are Autistic.
this would worry them unnecessarily..I will tell them when I have the results .
Just be nice to hear from others.
thanks for reading
Hi Have no idea where that name came from but love it
Sorry to see you joining us here in the club no one wants to be in :-/
It's a wise move waiting until you know what the heck is going on before mentioning anything. You would probably only get questions you can't answer. Is this a skin issue that could be skin cancer, or one already confirmed cancerous but waiting further results to see if this is melanoma ?
There are two groups here that may be helpful to you one is the Melanoma Group and the other is the Skin Cancer Group. Maybe the skin cancer group would be the better option until you find out if you have dodged a melanoma diagnosis.
You have found a great place to be at a tough time, as everyone here are either patients or carers and is a very friendly site.
How long do you have to wait to find out your results ?

Hi , I’m sorry to hear your in limbo, and if you are needing someone to talk to people who have experience of a suspected melanoma the melanoma group is where I’d recommend. I disagree with ’s well meant recommendation for the skin cancer group as that is for all the other skin cancers such as BCC or SCC. You will find that if it’s already a suspected melanoma it will either not be cancerous at all but something that looked like it, or if you are unluckily enough for it to be melanoma you will be hoping for something small that will have already been removed. I can understand that sometimes the melanoma group can seem scary to some people as we have all stages in the group. I’m someone who was diagnosed when melanoma that had spread to my lymph nodes and then ovary but I’m currently no evidence of disease.and doing well so hoping that will take a bit of the scariness away. It helps to not think to far ahead, just one step at a time so please pop on over. You said you haven’t read up on treatments yet I’m wondering if that’s because you need a little more support to do that from others who have been through it, you mention head in the sand, but you’re here and I have a feeling your going to be looking up soon with I hope, information to know that others have been where you are now and the scary bit is the unknown sometimes rather than the, I know what’s ahead I can do this and I know how to prepare myself, but that’s only my opinion as I’m often in an optimistic mood, with the occasional wobble, and the group helps me at the wobble times.
Best wishes
Hi Dreamtheif,
thanks for replying.
your names rather cool too,
yes the name is because I live in wales, Myfanwy is a lovely girls name and I do tend to faff when I’m stressed and Faye just seemed to fit in the middle
my GP is a dermatologist ,which is lucky so no waiting for referrals he just looked at it and said yep that got to come off.
He hasn’t indicated what it may be ,but said two weeks for the result. In a rather Solemn way, which quit appropriate given what he’s doing.
that will be in 9 days time.
he took what I thought was a large area around the mole itself do I have a 2 cm scar , or will do when it’s healed up.
i suppose that worried me a bit ,but hopefully that’s because in order to get the skin to fit together neatly ,he needed to cut it like that.
I'm afraid I didn’t like to ask him at the time.
I will go to the skin cancer group ,thank you so much for the support I really appreciate it.
and yes this site is Amazing. And so are you for giving you time .
thanks again
Hi KTatHome.
thanks for sending a great explanation and sharing your experience with me.
yes the wobbles are something I can relate too.
normaly I do read everything as I too think forewarned is forarmed , but this time I’ve been dilly dallying .
but now I will get on with it and thanks so much .
good luck for you too
Hi and another welcome to the online community
I'm sorry to hear that you're waiting for the results of a suspected melanoma. As my friend KTatHome has suggested, the best group to wait out these results in is the melanoma group as you can then chat to others in the same situation as yourself.
To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'join this group' on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself or post a question after selecting 'start a discussion' and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
I had a lesion, which turned out to be melanoma, removed 3 years ago. Your GP will have removed a large area around the mole to make sure that, if it is cancerous, he has taken away enough to leave a clear margin between the lesion and the rest of your skin.
If it is melanoma then for most people the only treatment you'll need is a wide local excision (WLE) and, depending on the depth of the melanoma, an optional sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) to check for spread. Clicking on the links will take you to information on those procedures. I've had both of them so will be happy to go into more detail if you need to have them done.
When you have a minute it would be really useful if could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
I'll look out for you in the melanoma group.
x
Hi
Hope I haven't misled you as I didn't realise the tissue sample you had removed was actually a mole. KT and Latchbrook are the champs with melanoma experience so I am pleased they both replied to you
Fingers crossed for 9 days time and cwtches from south wales, G n' J
Hi. Dreamthief
