Hello. I ws diagnosed with breast cancer in May this year and following surgery was put

on a course of Paclitaxol weekly for 12 weeks and 3 weekly Herceptin injections for a year.

Having my ninth round last week I started reacting to the IV. Long story short I have been told

I am to have no further chemo. I appreciate the reasoning but am mad with myself because I

have not completed the course and I just wondered if anyone else had had a similar experience.

  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community although I'm sorry you've had to find us.

Could I point you in the direction of the breast cancer group where I'm sure you'll find plenty of people who will be willing to share their experiences with you.

Clicking on the link I've created will take you there and you can then introduce yourself or post a question after selecting 'start a discussion' and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

When you have a minute it would be really useful if could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

    Hi

I am really sorry to hear about your reaction to the taxol. You were so near the finish line too.

I have had a similar experience last year when I came off chemo a month early but that was because the cancer had started growing again. It did feel kind of tough not to get to the end and get the maximum benefit but it was also good to focus on not having another dose with all the side effects that go with it.

So I can understand how you feel mad at yourself. I think now is the time to be kind to yourself. Sit yourself down with a cup of tea, remind yourself how well you’ve done to get this far, reassure yourself that it’s been worth it (and I hope it has) and give yourself a hug.

The breast cancer group that Latchbrook has highlighted is a really great source of support. I do hope you’ll find some friends there.

    All the best
