Hello, My mum has just been diagnosed with CUP, and been given upto 12 months to live Cry I'm absolutely devastated that most stories I have read through googling have shown that most people with this have lived a lot less, just wondering if there is a particular group/page with others in my situation xx

  • Hi and welcome to the online community

I'm sorry to hear that your mum has just been diagnosed with unknown primary cancer (CUP). There is a group for unknown primary cancer on this site where you can ask questions, share experiences and get support from others with CUP.

You may also like to join the family and friends group where you can discuss your worries with others who have a member of their family being treated for cancer.

To join both or either of these groups just click on the links I've created and then choose 'join this group' on the pages that open. You can then introduce yourself or post a question after selecting 'start a discussion' and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

Could I recommend that you stay off google and stick to sites like this one or Cancer Research UK if you want to find information on CUP (link to information from Macmillan). Although google is a mine of information a lot of it is out of date and it will bring up the worse-case scenarios.

When you feel up to it, it would be really useful if could pop something about your mum's journey so far into your profile as it helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
