Im new here so apologies if I make any errors.
We are currently waiting for the results of a biopsy on a possible malignant melanoma on my son. He’s 9 and the hospital has said we will have to wait 4-6 weeks for the results. Is this normal?
Hi and a warm welcome to the online community
Unfortunately 4-6 weeks is a normal period of time for the results of a possible melanoma to come back. This is usually down to how busy the pathology labs are and in no way reflects how urgent or not the biopsy is.
One thing to remember is that even if it does turn out to be melanoma it has now been removed and, for most people, an operation to remove another margin of skin around the original excision site is usually all the further treatment that is needed.
While you're waiting why don't you come and join us over in the melanoma group where you can chat to others who are waiting for their results.
To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'join this group' on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself or post a question after selecting 'start a discussion' and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
