Hi just need to talk..... Mum's been diagnosed with brain metastases quite large ones.Up until 6 weeks ago she was shopping and taking care of herself she has now got bad bilateral leg ulcers and has taken to her chair. She has a sore bottom and a really sore mouth although she hasn't lost her appetite. Carers are in 3 x daily and I have been around to support. She had some radiotherapy but they said it may only prolong the inevitable. What do I need to expect as no one has really spoke about how long she has or what will happen. Does any one have any comments as I'm really on my own I know every case is different .Thanks
Hi Milo11, well, you've come to the right place if u want to talk, so welcome.
Might I suggest u join the Brain, secondary cancer and Family and friends groups. There are plenty of folk in the first group who have had various treatments for their brain mets. It will depend very much on where they are as to what treatment is suitable. Your mum's consultant will meet with others involved in your mum's care at an MDT, (multi disciplinary team) meeting. The team will then decide on the best way forward re treatment.
Does she have another appointment with the consultant? Or have a cancer nurse specialist u can ask about what's going on?
It would be useful if you put a bit in your profile to save u repeating yourself n also joined the group for your mum's primary cancer - so u can get more information/ support from ppl there too.
Hi and welcome to the online community although I'm very sorry that you've had to find us.
Your mum's diagnosis must have come as a tremendous shock to you and it's no wonder that you feel that you need to talk.
I think if you join the supporting someone with incurable cancer group you'll find that you can discuss your worries as well as talk about practical matters with others who will understand what you're going through.
To join this group click on the link I've created and then choose 'join this group' on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself or post a question after selecting 'start a discussion' and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
