Hi, I have Non Hodgkin's lymphoma and was due to start chemo last Tuesday but need a Hickman line fitted (which I had asked for the previous Friday but was told it wasn't needed) and wondered if anyone knows how long it will take to get an appointment. I have already been getting messed about for months and am impatient to start treatment Disappointed

  • Hi and welcome to the Online Community but sorry to see you finding us.

I am Mike and I was diagnosed with a rare type of NHL in 1999 so do understand the journey you are on.

I had a PICC line for my main chemo but had 4 Hickman Lines for my Two Stem Cell Transplants. As for the time it takes - how long is a length of string? You just need to talk with your team and ask the question.

We do have the forums below where you can connect with others on the same journey.

    General Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma

    Follicular Lymphoma

    Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma

    Mantel Cell Lymphoma

    T-Cell Lymphoma

Go to the 'Start a Discussion' tab just under the main group name and set up your own Discussion and introduce yourself to the group.

I will keep an eye open for you.

Hi thehighlander and thank you for replying Slight smile

When I was told i couldn't have the chemo as I would need to be fitted with a Hickman line I was just told it would be an urgent referral and someone would contact me so I feel like I've Beebeen  left hanging

  • Hi again, the secret is to keep contacting your team to make sure that you are not left hanging as the system can let you down. The Hickman Line is done by surgical so your team need to push them on.

Do come and join the best support group as you will connect with lots of folks and remember and tell us what chemo you are having as we can help you out with that as well
