I amuse to start 3 cycles of chemo with Gemcarbo for secondary cancer in my liver. Can anyone give me advice on what I can expect with regard to side effects and how to minimise them.
Hello and welcome to the community, although sorry you find yourself here. I see from your profile that this is not your first encounter with cancer. It is difficult to predict how people react to chemo. Some people sail through it, others have nasty side effects, but most are somewhere in the middle. The common side effect of any chemo is fatigue, which catches up with you and makes you feel wiped out. I had a similar regimen to you. 3 cycles of Gemcitabine and Cisplatin. Cisplatin is very similar to Carboplatin. I was fortunate not to have any real problems with it . I still managed to get out for a few pints during treatment and also managed a few games of golf. I was never really sick with it, although I know others who did. I think it is just pot luck how people react. When you go to your first treatment, make sure you wear loose comfy clothes as you are in the chair for a long time. Also plenty of drinks and snacks and something you keep you occupied. We have a group here you may find it helpful to join. Liver, secondary cancer . There you will find others going through the same. Happy to help with my experience if you have any questions. Best wishes.
