My dad finished radiotherapy two weeks ago for Prostrate Cancer but has felt worse since finishing.   Having to constantly go to loo but not being able to go (no bowel movement) and feeling extremely fatigued with no appetite or taste for food.  Is there anyone who may have suffered similar problems after treatment has ended.

  • Hello and welcome to the community, although sorry to hear your dad is having some post treatment problems. Radiotherapy does not stop when the treatment stops. It continues working for a few weeks after the actual treatment stops and there is a build up of side effects. Pelvic radiotherapy is known for causing bowel and bladder problems. Your dad's GP should be able to help with this. You may like to post your questions in the Prostate Group where the guys who have had this specific treatment may be able to help with how they dealt with it. Click the link to get to the group and post your concerns there. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

Hi, I felt exactly the same after my radiotherapy and chemo.  I wasn't able to get the horrid taste out of my mouth.  I'd suggest some sour sweets to suck for your dad.  They're probably the only thing i could stomach, and lemon fanta! Haha!   It will pass though...honest.  I met a patient who'd had to have all her teeth removed as she had cancer of the tongue.  I used to get upset over the awful taste in my mouth and then think of how much worse this lady must have felt.  It kind of made me feel guilty so i just looked forward to the time when I could feel normal again.  Thwybshoulsbhave given your dad a diet sheet...whatbto and what not to eat.  He should lay off the fibre eg. no tomatoes, peas, wholemeal food potato skin and many more.  I couldn't go out for about 3 weeks solid unless there was a loo within reach...!!!  Sleep...rest...chill...but try and plan little activities to keep himself with something to look forward to.  I became addicted to jigsaws...hahaha....your dad can have them...hahah.  kept me occupied for hours and was very relaxing.  He will feel better...it just takes time.  Xxx
