Hi I am new to this site.

My Husband was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma on July 3rd this year. What a shock it all was to receive such devastating news. However, we are all positive and staying strong as a family. He has undergone 2 cycles of chemotherapy with 4 more to go. He is well and with no real side effects. So we have decided whilst he is well to have a short break away in Europe. What is the best travel insurance company to use with my Husbands condition? Can anyone advise please?

 Thanks

Hi and welcome to the online community, I am sorry to hear about your husband but it is really good news that he is feeling well enough to think about having a holiday, I like the positive attitude.

Obviously going on holiday you will need holiday insurance, the EHIC card is not sufficient, but getting a reasonably priced quote can be a nightmare with a cancer diagnosis.

We have a  dedicated Travel insurance forum for cancer patients group where the members have put together and keep updated the Members Travel Insurance recommendations.

I would like to suggest that you join the Travel insurance forum for cancer patients Group and scroll through the members recommendations

It is best to pick a few that the members have found good prices from and give them a phone rather that using a price comparison website

My friend  who normally looks after the forum will be along shortly to give you some more information that may help you in your search.

Please do join the Travel Insurance Group and certainly look at the members recommendations they will help you face the minefield that is Travel Insurance.

I hope it works out for you and you have an extremely good relaxing well deserved holiday.

  • Hi and a second welcome to the online community

I can completely understand how shocking it must have been for all the family when you discovered that your husband had been diagnosed with cancer. Although it's nearly three years ago now I can remember only too clearly how numb and shocked I felt when I was given my cancer diagnosis.

I'm glad to hear that he's coping well with the chemotherapy and it would be great if you could go for a short break in Europe. I see that you have joined the travel insurance group and hopefully you'll be able to find some recommendations there.

Unfortunately, it can be more difficult to find reasonably priced travel insurance when you have had a cancer diagnosis. I don't know whether you've looked through the Recommended Travel Insurance thread yet as it's where we try to keep recommendations from other forum members who have obtained travel insurance. Clicking on the link I've created will take you directly to it if you haven't seen it.

It is best to phone the travel companies rather than try and do online quotes. Make sure you have all the information to hand about your husband's diagnosis and treatment before contacting the insurers. This is a list of common questions that insurers might ask when you're applying for insurance.

Some insurers will ask for a letter from your husband's doctor to prove that they have given permission for him to travel. In any case it's best to check with his doctor, if you haven't already, that it's okay to travel and that this has been recorded in his notes.

I do hope that you can get some reasonably priced travel insurance and that you have a great trip.
