Hi,
I've recently been diagnosed with breast cancer and have had a lumpectomy. Following this, I now have to have a 3 weeks course of radiotherapy.
Due to finances and other things, I am trying to keep working through this, but work have said they will only schedule my shifts round the appointments if I have a letter with every appointment on it. Will I get this or do I have to ask for it?
I only have my letter for the planning appointment, work won't accept this as "proof" I need certain hours.
I'm just feeling really overwhelmed and don't have a support network at all so hoping someone can help with this question here, I don't want to end up looking stupid at my appointment for not knowing, and have bigger questions to worry about really.
Thank you, Lucy
Hi
I'm sorry to hear that you've recently been diagnosed with breast cancer.
Could I point you in the direction of the breast cancer group as there are lots of very helpful people over there who can answer your questions.
To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'join this group' on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself or ask a question after selecting 'start a discussion' or join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
When you have a minute it would be really useful if could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

Hello , and welcome to the online community, I’m sorry to hear about your diagnosis and upcoming treatment. My own cancer is different to yours, I’ve not had radiotherapy or needed to liaise with work, at my hospital Ive been able to sign up to system where I can see all my appointments and test results on line which has been excellent, but I don’t know if yours has the same thing.
I’m sure you won’t look stupid at your appointment for asking you could take a note book with all your questions, (I often think I can do without a list and then forget something !) I have the name and number of a specialist cancer nurse, and if I forget to ask anything, or need advice between appointments I can give them a ring I hope you have something similar as each hospital might have it’s own way of doing things. If you want some reassurance and ongoing support from people who have experience of or who are currently going through your treatment I wondered if you wanted to join the breast cancer group and repost in there. I will put the link in for you below.

Their is also the ask an expert section that you could consider
Good luck with your upcoming treatment and sorting work out how you want.
Take care KT
