Hello all - I have just joined this group although my experience with cancer goes back some 20 years! I have suffered with two separate cancer illnesses. Breast cancer back in 2000 and then bowel cancer in 2014. I have just had the all clear for my last CT scan and bloods (Hurray).... my partner of 7 years has now been diagnosed with bowel cancer and starts his chemotherapy treatment tomorrow. I just need some encouraging words, I can't believe this is happening to us yet again, I feel completely overwhelmed by the whole thing and am finding it hard to be strong for him when it is yet another blow for me. Help!!

  • Hello , I’ve tossed a coin and decided to congratulate you first for the all clear, and welcome you to the site, before saying I’m sorry to hear about your partner. As you’ve had 20 years experience of cancer, that’s far longer than my 4years, I’m thinking when you read your words back you’ll probably be giving yourself your own pep talk, and I’m sure you will be a marvellous source of support for your partner.

You say you feel completely overwhelmed, my thinking is it must bring back a few memories from the last few years, and it must be hard and so recent for you, but let’s see if I can help you get some support from this site.

May I suggest that when you next log in to the site that you tap on user name and edit your profile to include a bit of what you’ve said today, and then join a group where you can repost your plea for encouraging words.

Im thinking that you might like to join the carers group I will put a link in for you and perhaps the bowel cancer group.

Use the space to offload what your thinking, to get and give support from others.

Im wishing you luck for tomorrow’s appointment, I have treatment tomorrow to, the day unit doesn’t seem to have changed much where I do, the nursing staff are still as nice as always, the treatments for my cancer have moved on a lot in the last few years so I hoping that a good sign for you and your partner to.

    best wishes

    Take care KT
