Hi,
I was just wondering if it's essential to take cyclazine (3 a day) as a matter of course or can it be left to patients discretion. My Mum has been prescribed it following a week in hospital with a bowel obstruction (colorectal cancer) She has been on 3 a day but she felt ok without it and to be honest I believe (I could be wrong) that one of her medications is causing confusion/memory impairment
Thank you for your help
Hi and welcome to the online community
I'm sorry to hear that your mum has been diagnosed with bowel cancer. It must be a very worrying time for you all.
No one here can comment on whether it's okay for your mum to stop taking her medication as we're just fellow cancer patients like your mum and not medically qualified. However, I would say that she shouldn't alter any medication without speaking to someone in her team. She should have been assigned a cancer nurse specialist (CNS) so it would be best if she gave her a call to talk about her medication.
You might like to join the bowel cancer group, where you can ask questions and share experiences with others, and also the family and friends group, which is a safe and supportive place to share your worries.
To join either or both of these groups just click on the links I've created and then choose 'join this group' on the pages that open. You can then introduce yourself or ask a question after selecting 'start a discussion' or join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
When you have a minute it would be really useful if could pop something about your mum's journey so far into your profile as it helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
