    Hi

personally I see no reason why not but I wonder if it’s where you’ll get the best support. I’ll ask the moderators what they think. Meanwhile, why don’t you take a look at the bladder cancer group. You’re free to join more than one group, of course. There’s The Room where you can let off steam as well as emotional issues.

Hi I see no reason for you not joining the carers only group as the group name implies it is for carers only and we don't only just discuss cancer related items but everything to do with being a carer.

Come and join us and see if it would be of interest to you recently I've been involved with items like applying for benefits and having an assessment which is something you and your mother, if not already done so, have them carried by your local council which they are obliged to do without obligation even if they can't help you'll be on the radar for the future. As your mum has multiple health issues they maybe able to do at the very least some home adaptions to make her life and mobility a bit easier.

Some of the adaptions I've had include hand rails at my back door, the foot of my stairs, half way up my stairs, in my garden plus bathroom items such as bath board, bath seat and raised toilet seat with guard rails and they've offered me more which I refused but I'm waiting for a further assessment to go over my needs. They can organise Grant's from your local authority for substantial amounts.

If your mum hasn't applied for an attendance allowance (I am assuming she is of pensionable age, I would suggest that she applies as soon as possible, it's not means tested but I would suggest that she gets help with application form from organisation such as Citizens Advice, AgeUk, our very own Macmillans either by a volunteer coming to your home or at a Macmillans Information Service Centre normally found in the foyer of large hospitals.

Come along and join us in the Carers only forum group we're a friendly bunch and you'll be made very welcome.

If you join our Bladder cancer forum group my friend  will be on hand to give you all the help you need to see you through the initial stages and beyond of your diagnosis.

One thing to remember no matter which group(s) you join you are free to ask any question you want and there will always be someone on hand to give you the answer or point you in the right direct for help.

And now I've left myself without anything to discuss with you when we meet in the carers only group but I'm sure you'll find something that you want to know or ask me.

  • Hi , so sorry to read about what you and your mum have both been going through, with my wife with cancer but having a few issues myself I can really appreciate where you are. I see my friends have given some really great advice already but I wondered too if you had any contact with carers uk.
