Hi x

My dad has recently been diagnosed with small bowel cancer.

It is a rare cancer and we are all struggling to deal with this having never known anyone directly with cancer

My dad is very depressed and angry and confused

Its very hard to talk to him and family as i don't want to keep bringing it up or discussing it in conversation

He starts Chemo next wed and i am hoping that he can get better

Has anyone known or knows anyone with this cancer? xxx

  • Hi  and welcome to the online community

I'm very sorry to hear about your dad's recent diagnosis and it's understandable that he's feeling depressed, angry and confused at the moment. If you click on this link it will help you understand what your dad may be facing at the moment and will help you to understand why he feels like he does.

Could I suggest a couple of groups for you to join. The first is the small bowel cancer group where you can ask questions and share experiences with others who have this type of cancer. The second is the family and friends group which is a safe and supportive place to share your worries and concerns.

To join these groups just click on the links I've created and then choose 'join this group' on the pages that open. You can then post a question or introduce yourself after selecting 'start a discussion' and respond to existing posts by clicking on 'reply'.

When you feel ready it would be really useful if could pop something about your dad's journey so far into your profile as it helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
