Hello All,
I am from India and the situation here related to cancer is very alarming. Patients and family experience extreme agony because of the physical, emotional and financial burden associated with the disease. With my limited resource and knowledge, I am not sure whether I can help people overcome their physical and financial burden but I want to be of some help to reduce the emotional distress the patients and their families experience throughout the journey. In fact, I am living in Kolkata (one of the 4 metro cities of the country) and there is not a single group in the city addressing cancer counselling properly. I have connected with a friend of mine and we have decided to start on this journey to initiate the formation of a group providing cancer counselling to patients and their families. We have gone through contents on the internet to get an idea on initiating the journey but considering the idea is so alien in our country, we are finding it a bit difficult to proceed. Any kind of information on how we can proceed (keeping aside the technicalities of forming an organization), what we need in terms of resources, what should be the immediate action plans to get this going, etc ,will be highly appreciated.
Thanks for help of any sort.
Regards,
Abhiroop
Hi Abhiroop,
Thanks for posting on the Community - I'm Jimmy from the Community team here at Macmillan.
I'm so sorry to learn about the difficulties you feel people affected by cancer in your country have in accessing support. It's great to though read that you and your friend are taking steps to form a support network for those who need it.
Unfortunately Macmillan's Community isn't best placed to answer or support you query here, so I'd recommend emailing the above to contactus@macmillan.org.uk, or filling in this form from our website. The team who mans this inbox will be able to advise as to whether anyone at Macmillan will be able to support you or not.
I wish you the very best on your journey, Abhiroop.
Jimmy
