hi all,

We are currently waiting for diagnosis for what we think is non Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

My husband is 62, has had Hodgkin’s lymphoma 3 times, at 15,17 & 24.

He then had prostate cancer 5 years ago and we now believe he has nhl!!

in between all the above he’s had a heart attack, bypass, osteomyelitis!!

I really think he’s had more than his fair share..

He’s so depressed and feels he cannot fight again.

we have 2 10 year old boys and I don’t have anyone to talk to.

Its tough, I don’t know how to reassure him, keep his mind set positive, keep my children entertained and happy & just do what I can...

Any hints/tips would be greatly appreciated x

    Hi

It does indeed sound as though your husband has had more than his fair share - and by the sounds of it you have too. It’s so important to have someone to talk to and I’m sad to read you don’t feel you have anyone.

You say you are waiting for a diagnosis - do you know when you might here? If your suspicions are confirmed, it might help to join our Carers group

    https://community.macmillan.org.uk/cancer_experiences/carers_only/

Follow the link above and join the group by hitting the ‘Join the Group’ tab just under the main group name. At this point select how you want to receive email notifications when someone answers your posts.

You can either go to the 'Start a Discussion' tab just under the main group name. Set up your own Discussion and introduce yourself to the group - you could just copy an paste what you have in this first post. You can also have a look through the various threads by going into the ‘Discussions’ section.

You may find our various Macmillan Support Line Services to be helpful - call them on 0808 808 00 00 This free service covers Emotional Support, Practical Information. Clinical Information, Financial Support and Work Guidance mostly open 8.00 to 8.00 but check the link.

We also have our ‘Ask an Expert’. section where you can post questions to our mostly Volunteer Experts but please allow 2 working days to get a reply.

Our Online Information and Support Section  is a good place to find information covering cancer diagnosis, treatments and pages covering most types of cancers.

Talking to people face to face can help a lot so check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support Groups in your area or a Maggie’s Centre as these folks are amazing.

I hope you find the support you need. It makes all the difference

    xx

  • Hi ‘Busy mum too’ a second welcome to the Online Community but wow, your husband has been through the medical ringer.

You have received a great reply from my friend  and please follow up on the links she has given you as you can connect with others to talk with.

I have lived with my type of NHL for 20 years now so do have experience in the treatment areas he may face.

Even although NHL and HL are both blood cancer there are various approaches to the treatment of NHL.

I see you have joined our Non-Hodgkin lymphoma and Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma forums. We are a very supportive bunch and can be another place to receive support from folks on the same journey.

    ((hugs))
