Hi

Anyone experienced severe anger and withdrawal compounded by alcohol?

Husband drinks regularly and is reliably behaving badly and overlaying his hurt and sad in me and our daughters.

Despite sober conversations, tears from us all . He's carrying on regardless as what's he got to lose is his philosophy.

I dont need explanation as to why he's doing what he's doing I'm interested if anyone's managed the break the 'cycle'?

I dont think the mental aspect of support for the cancer patient is visible or interested in our experience. The carers are reaching out but the sufferers aren't/can't a d it seems is a vicious cycle.

  • Hi and welcome to the community, although sorry to hear about your husband and the difficult situation you find yourself in. I see you have found your way to the Carers only group. If you post your concerns in the group, there may be someone with similar experiences who could help. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • Hi and a second welcome to the Online Community. So sorry to hear the issues the family are facing.

I have no first hand experience that I can bring to the table but I would also highlight the following forums where you can connect with others supporting family and friends through their cancer journey Carers Forum  and Friends and Family Forum and let’s look for others with relevant experience who can help you out.

You may find our various Macmillan Support Line Services to be helpful - call them on 0808 808 00 00 This free service covers Emotional Support, Practical Information. Clinical Information, Financial Support and Work Guidance mostly open 8.00 to 8.00 but check the link.

We also have our ‘Ask an Expert’. section where you can post questions to our mostly Volunteer Experts but please allow 2 working days to get a reply.

Talking to people face to face can help a lot so check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support Groups in your area or a Maggie’s Centre as these folks are amazing and from experience talking with the staff deal with all aspects of the cancer journey.

    Hi

I am so very sorry to hear about the difficult situation with your husband. I have some experience of alcoholism in my family. I think we have all heard of AA - Alcoholics Anonymous- but are you aware of Al Anon? It’s the group for the family and friends of alcoholics. There are meetings all over the country. You can read more here:

    I hope this is helpful
