I have just returned from holiday and while away I realised whole applying sun cream that my left armpit is swollen. I have had breast pain in my left breast for years. It comes and goes and is not connected to my periods. I went to the doctor about it and was told it was nothing to worry about so I tried to put it to the back of my kind. I have been examining myself again tonight and my left armpit is definitely swollen. I’ve decided to phone the doctor in the morning. I looked my symptoms up on the internet and found myself reading about inflammatory breast cancer and realised I have other symptoms which match this (breast and nipple itching, possibly some dimpling). I’m now scared out of my mind and just need to talk to someone
Hiya,
I just have to point out that breast cancer does not always present as a lump . For any changes to the breast, it is always best to see your gp. Personally with all the symptoms listed
Hi , Thanks for pitching in with support, I just looked for your profile (empty at the moment) and saw you were new to the site to, so welcome. I hope you can find your way to the cancer type group or cancer experience group(s) that best matches you, I know men with Breast cancer are in the minority but you will be welcomed there and it sounds like, give good support back.
I’m off out for a walking netball session now, feel free to just read the posts or add one of your own and enjoy your day.
, please let us know how you get on at the docs, a reply is copied below on the site and emailed to all of us who have had input on the thread, if that box is ticked so you can reply to multiple people just like I’m doing now.
Best wishes
Take care KT
Hiya,
I just have to point out that breast cancer does not always present as a lump . For any changes to the breast, it is always best to see your gp. Personally with all the symptoms listed, i would insist on an appointment at the breast clinic to get it fully checked out to give you peace of mind.
Fingers crossed for you. Pop over to the breast group. It is quite busy and there are others in the same position as you that will give you support.
Cwtches,

Thanks KTatHome. I’ve got an appointment In a couple of hours with an advanced practitioner nurse at my doctor’s surgery. I’m at work just now and trying my hardest not to let it show that anything is wrong. First day back after my holiday and everyone will be expecting me to be lively and chatty while it’s taking all my strength just not to break down and cry.
I know that feelin Arlene48 just a word of advise make sure they start the ball rolling for scan checks. There seem to be a bit of a wait on the clinic times. I wish you well x
I saw the nurse this morning and she’s referring me to the breast clinic. She thinks it’s about 6 to 8 weeks for an appointment. I’m going to try my best not to worry about it too much in the meantime. Thank you for your supportive messages today. You don’t know how much they helped me.
Hi Arlene48 Thats a long time to wait fast track is normally 2 weeks. I was told 5 to 6 weeks i couldnt wait as i have already had a lump removed when i was 9 years old. It brought it all back. I actually paid privately not that i could afford the op private but it did get the ball rolling. It was £500 for the one stop package. Im not saying private is best because i do think nhs is a wonderful thing. But for me the waiting game mentally drains me. Still not sleeping properly everything brings me to tears. I have found great strength from the women on here. It helps to talk to people in the same boat. Good luck
I did question the waiting time but the nurse told me once they send the referral it’s out of their hands. What I might do is phone the breast clinic next week to check if they have my referral and see if I can get a cancellation.
Sounds a good idea. You sometimes have to help yourself. I think im looking at a long night. X
