I have just returned from holiday and while away I realised whole applying sun cream that my left armpit is swollen. I have had breast pain in my left breast for years. It comes and goes and is not connected to my periods.  I went to the doctor about it and was told it was nothing to worry about so I tried to put it to the back of my kind. I have been examining myself again tonight and my left armpit is definitely swollen. I’ve decided to phone the doctor in the morning. I looked my symptoms up on the internet and found myself reading about inflammatory breast cancer and realised I have other symptoms which match this (breast and nipple itching, possibly some dimpling). I’m now scared out of my mind and just need to talk to someone

  • Dear Arlene, the middle of the night's the worst time for  all the what ifs, especially when you've been consulung Dr  . Google. A  Community champion will b in touch with u soon. I'm just an ordinary member who got up for a  wee n saw your post.

  • Hi , welcome to the online community, I’m sorry you were having a restless nights sleep worrying about your swollen armpit. I am imagining that you are here because you’re worried about breast cancer and it is easy to think of the what ifs. Google probably never has the simple explanations, but that said when ever someone is worried about their health the best thing as you’ve already said is to contact your dr again.

It’s a good thing that you have had it checked out before and they thought it was nothing, sometimes if Drs just dismiss something as nothing without explaining, those doubts linger though. Write everything down before you call to make sure your happy that you’ve told them everything and tell them what you are worried about, and if you are not happy with any answer ask how they reached that conclusion. I have not had breast cancer and I’m not a medic just a patient myself with a different cancer that’s been using the site for a while.

You are very welcome to join the breast cancer group if you wish and ask for others experience of breast cancer and say why you are worried to get support awaiting an all clear or a diagnosis, or you could just read through the posts there. I will put the link in to the group and a link on how to complete your profile, if you post more than once it’s easier for people to read your profile to see how you are affected by cancer and how they can help and for you to read the profile of people answering you to see their cancer experience.

    Hi Arlene48

I recommend speaking to another GP and push for a scan, ray or biopsy just in case.

Fortunately my GP sent me off to the hospital to get mine checked out even though I was a 26 year old men with no pain or couldn't see it as it turned out to be early stage breast cancer. That was over 20 years ago. GP's can be useless as it took me many visits when it returned 3 years ago when I was struggling to walk and had back pain.

    Good luck

    Jason

Thanks for your message. It is safe to say it’s one of the worst night’s I’ve had and the most scared I can ever remember feeling. I eventually managed to get a few hours sleep. My doctor’s surgery opens in one hour so i’ll phone then to see if I can get an appointment today.

Thank you for your message. Since I last went to the doctor I have moved home and am now with a different GP practice. I’m so worried.

Mate there's nothing to be scared or worried about so just get it checked out and enjoy your day.

It doesn't sound like the symptoms and if you can't feel a lump then there's nothing to be worried or scared about.

Getting yourself worked up will make you ill so keep smiling and enjoy life.
