Hi I am due to have surgery on 17th July to remove a tumour in my right breast and lymph node in my right arm pit, I am so anxious about surgery and how I will feel afterwards I then face 3 - 5 weeks of radiotherapy and maybe Chemotherapy, My mum died of breast cancer and her yougest sister and her sisters daughter both had it but survived.  It scares me knowing I have this inside me my mind just keeps going round and round and I am not sleeping well.  The waiting is so hard.

  • Hi

I welcomed you to the community a couple of weeks ago and I see that you've since joined the breast cancer group.

I can understand why you'd be scared at the prospect of the treatment to come but I'm sure if you post your concerns in the breast cancer group you'll be helped by the members there who have been through this. If you click on the link I've created it will take you over to that group.

    Wishing you all the best

    Hi,

i had the surgery, lump removal and lymph node removal on June 14th and have to say I came through it very easily. I realise we all react and recover differently but for me the worst bit was trying to remove the strapping and subsequent adhesive marks from right across my chest. I did not need to use any of the pain killers the hospital gave me.

i have had my results and thankfully the surrounding cells were clear as were the lymph nodes. I have to have 3 weeks of radio therapy starting in August but don’t need Chemo.

the best advice I can give is to ask questions on anything you may be unsure of. I had/have a fabulous team of nurses whom I rang when something was bothering me. I’ve only just joined this group and suspect this will be a fab source of support as well. Talk to your aunts as they may ease your worries and keep busy.

wishing you all the best xx

  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community

I'm very glad to hear how well your treatment is going and that you only need radiotherapy now.

So that you can get the most out of the community could I suggest that you join the breast cancer group where you can ask questions, share experiences and get support.

To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'join this group' on the page that opens. You can then post a question or introduce yourself after selecting 'start a discussion' and respond to existing posts by clicking on 'reply'.
