Hello there,

I’m new to the group, I’ve joined the wonderful Macmillan team for London Marathon 2020 and it couldn’t have come at a better time for me.

I have been caring ar it for my father, who passed a way only a couple of weeks ago, between diagnosis with lung cancer and his passing (three months). So, it’s just been an absolute whirlwind, this journey seemed to have moved so quickly, I never had the opportunity to process and now I have all of this time on my hands and it’s quite difficult. Prior caring for my Dad, there were things that I enjoyed doing, which I thought I would happily get back into - but this didn’t happen.

Since my Dad has passed, I have lived with this guilt that’s eaten me up, and then I best myself up, that instead of sadness about loss, that I’m caught up in guilt on decision making and so on and so forth, it’s a tough one.

Anyway, I was delighted to get the call from Macmillan to join the team for next year’s race. Being apart of the team means I now have to get my gear on and get outside and do the things I’ve always loved, finding myself again, and letting go of some of those awful feelings and letting my feelings as a daughter back in.

If if there’s anyone else out there, running etc please get in touch, I would love to support/get to know you & or your journeys etc.

  • Hi  and welcome to the Online Community, although I am so sorry to see folks finding us.

Sorry to hear about the passing of your father and the whirlwind of it all but you have found a safe place to connect with others.

Guilt in a cancer journey is a very real emotion and I can only imagine your challenges, as a cancer survivor I also can suffer from guilt, survivors guilt. I did get some help with this and it helped unpack the battle between the ears - it’s worth checking out opportunities to talk with people face to face - check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support Groups in your area or a Maggie’s Centre as these folks are amazing.

Thank you for being willing to run for Macmillan and it’s only through folks like yourself that the great work of Macmillan can support folks on their cancer journeys.

We do have lots of Cancer experience support groups where you can connect with people, give and receive support.

Have a look at the groups and if you find somewhere to connect in join the group(s) by hitting the ‘Join the Group’ tab just under the main group name. At this point select how you want to receive email notifications when someone answers your posts.

The best way to give and get support is to go to the 'Start a Discussion' tab just under the main group name. Set up your own Discussion and Introduce yourself to the group.

You may find our various Macmillan Support Line Services to be helpful - call them on 0808 808 00 00 This free service covers Emotional Support and Practical Information mostly open 8.00 to 8.00 but check the link......... and you could find out information about local Macmillan Volunteering Groups local to you.

We also have our ‘Ask an Expert’ section where you can post questions to our mostly Volunteer Experts but please allow 2 working days to get a reply.

All the best for next year.
