Hi, has anyone any experience of being on Dexamethasone steroid tablets 2mg short term, together with Omeprazole? I was given them for two weeks to give me a boost, however I am on day 4 and being a T2 diabetic today I have felt 'odd'. The only was to describe it is if you have ever had a night out on the 'booze' the feeling you get when you are beginning to sober up but not quite, a bit starey eyed and not quite with it and tired. I am assuming it is my blood sugars as they are taking a long time to come down after eating.

I am just a little concerned it is not that but the steroids themselves. Anyone who has had experience with these your knowledge of them would be appreciated. I actually thought when I was given them I would wake up like the Incredible Hulk, but alas a quick look in the mirror soon changed my mind!!

Thank you x

    Hi Minnie W

I have had that steroid for helping to reduce inflammation and as part of my chemotherapy and I found it made me hyper but a bit vague and the tiredness kicked in after 3 days. I would check with your GP or cancer nurse as the diabetes is an added factor that needs to be checked.

    Wishing you all the best

    Albondigas x

  • Hi MinnieW welcome  to the forum.

I can only speak about how my dad was when he was on these and he was also diabetic. The issue with the steroids is that they can throw the blood glucose off and raise the levels and create a bit of havoc with them whilst on the steroids.

It might be worth a trip to your GP on Monday to let them know how you are feeling and see if they can offer any solutions for you.

Please do come back and let us know how you get on.

Sending very best wishes for now. x

Thank you Albondigas, I will certainly check with my Nurse on Monday but the weekend she is not available.

Its day 4 with me so perhaps that's the nature of the beast, tiredness I mean.

    Thank you again for responding.

    Take care x

Thank you Granny59, the hospital doctor did warn me that's a why I checked it so often, he told me to and I knew I wasn't right. I was just worried it could be the steroids themselves, although I do think it is most likely the sugar.

As for the GP I will certainly try but we are having a real problem getting through to them on the phone and appts are very hard to get.

    Thank you for your concern.

    Take care x
