Partner just diagnosed with lung cancer, such conflicting info given we are unsure what to do. Holiday planned for next few days ( 2 1/2 hours drive away) and to go or not as were told they would " work round it", now seems they wont.....Sadly as yet onlyseen 1 McMillan nurse at 1 appointment and no follow up from them. We are in limbo re operation to have or not and no other options given a such as yet. We feel numb.
Hi MissCJ
I am so sorry to hear about your partner. It sounds as though you’re caught up in a whirlwind.
I was diagnosed with womb cancer five years ago and I can still remember how I felt. It all felt such an emergency but at the same time, nothing was happening fast enough and I seemed to get conflicting information, particularly about timescales.
I’ve learned over the years that this is very common. That’s partly because cancer care doctors and nurses work in teams. These teams take a look at each case at a weekly meeting and then decide on the care plan. They will take into account all the tests - and that means the tests need to happen first. In my case, I needed a biopsy, MRI, CT scan, and blood tests. All this took time to organise and then to go to the team, then to communicate with me and then get the treatment started. It was just over a month between my diagnosis and my surgery. Looking back that seems very quick but it didn’t feel that way at the time.
I don’t know if that’s what’s going on in your partner’s case, but maybe it might help to know that what your going through isn’t unusual. The person to contact to try to get a clearer picture is your Macmillan nurse who should be able to answer any questions and chase things up for you.
Meanwhile, there are various groups here in the community where you can get more support for both of you. There’s a lung cancer group
https://community.macmillan.org.uk/cancer_types/lung-cancer/
And a group for friends and family

I hope you get a clear plan soon
Hi Daloni.
THank you for that info, we are in just such a dizzy muddle at the moment, and as you suggest our 1st point of call this morning at 9am is the Mcmillan nurses in hope we can get more clarity as the doctor/surgeon yesterday was very factual and no care or bedside manner so to speak. In your case I hope you are now much better, . I thankyou again for replying. As its now Wednesday we simply need to knowif we prepare to go away on SAturday as a weeks holiday booked a 2 and a half hour drive away, . This surgeon more or less said that we might get a call to go in with a 2 hour leeway ( for tests) which seems odd as every other one has been at least for the next day in that case we wouild just pack up and return. We were told previously that they would work round our holiday but now its not so or not so in this surgeons case. I seem to be more bothered about this holiday but it may be the last time we get to spend quality time together before the possible operation and all that will follow after that.Thankyou again.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
