Hello,
I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in Aug 2018 and on being informed of this was immediately asked to choose my treatment. Up until then my only knowledge of prostate cancer was a leaflet I was given a couple of weeks before. I chose what seemed to me the easiest option active surveillance. I still don't know if it was the correct decision.
On the 24th of this month I go for my second lot of biopsies and I don't mind admitting I am extremely worried as I will be asked to make another treatment decision. I still only have the original leaflet,"Prostate cancer. A guide for men who've just been diagnosed",to base my decision on and have had no contact from anybody concerning advice.
I would really appreciate learning from men who have already experienced making such decisions as I feel quite overwhelmed by this site and really don't know where to start.
Thank you.
Hi and welcome to the online community
I agree that this site can seem big and overwhelming initially but I'm sure you'll soon find your way around and if you ever get stuck just ask as they'll always be someone who can help.
Thank you for already completing your profile as it really helps people to answer your questions. As you said that you've received very little information about prostate cancer you might find this information from Macmillan helpful.
Firstly I'm going to provide you with a link to the prostate cancer group where you can ask questions and share experiences. Click on the link I've created and then choose 'join this group' on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself or ask a question by clicking on 'start a discussion'. Then just as you did here, give your post a title and then type your question.
The second thing I'm going to do is suggest that you phone the Macmillan Support Line on 0808 808 0000 and speak to the welfare rights advisors. It's free to call and they're available between 8am and 8pm from Monday to Friday. They can check to make sure that you're not missing out on any benefits that you might be entitled to.
I hope this helps you to get started but if you're not sure about anything just pop back.
x
