My brother has been having treatment for secondary bone cancer from prostrate cancer. He has now become immobile. My brother is 6ft and 09kg so my 5ft 1 slight sister in law cannot lift him. Their daughter lives in South Wales and she has two small children - she has come up to help her mum but now has to return home. So she now has no help at all. What can she do? I understand a referral has been made tithe palliative care team.
Hi and welcome to the online community although I'm sorry you've had to find us.
It's good that your brother has been referred to a palliative care team as they will be able to help control his symptoms as well as offering emotional support.
Now that your brother is at home his GP has overall responsibility for his care. Besides prescribing medicines they can also organise any help your sister-in-law might need. It would probably be a good idea for your sister-in-law to arrange for a social worker to come and visit to assess what practical help she and your brother need.
You might find this information on support from health and social care professionals useful and you, or your sister-in-law, could give the Macmillan Support Line a call on 0808 808 0000 to ask any questions about this that you have. It's free to call and available every day from 8am to 8pm.
