My father was diagnosed with cancer of the oesophagus 9 weeks ago. He had first cycle of FLOT chemotherapy last week and came home with a 5-fu pump. This was removed after 24 hours however 2 hours later he had a massive seizure which lasted 12 minutes and he stopped breathing.
Today we saw his clinical oncologist who had not experienced this side effect before and they have stopped the chemotherapy. There will be a MDT meeting next week to discuss the way forward.
I would be grateful if anyone who has experience of Oesophageal cancer being treated with radiotherapy and surgery rather than chemotherapy could tell me the success rates as there seems very little information.
Thank you.
Hello and welcome to the community, although sorry to hear your father had a bad reaction to chemo. Could I point you to the Gullet (oesophagus) Group . There you will find others with experience of this treatment and may be able to help. We also have an Ask a Nurse section where you will get professional advice from one of the cancer nurses. Click the highlighted links to get to the groups and post your concerns there. I hope all goes well. Best wishes.
