I have just been diagniposed with CIS and been told of the available treatment, immunotherapy with TB vaccine for 6 weeks. The side effects sound horrendous. Has anybody experienced this treatment and would care to share their experience and how they coped with it.?

  • Hello , the list of possible side effects can seem very daunting, I’m on my 34 th dose of Pembrolizumab for metastatic melanoma, not the same cancer as you but my side effects have been minimal, tiredness for a few days after the iv treatment and I once came up in an all over body rash that delayed treatment for a week. But it has got me to no measurable disease twice.

I was wandering if you wanted to join some of the groups on here and put a little something in your profile to help people answer your questions as this might not be your only post here, if you find the support and experience you need.

I think you’ve mentioned bladder cancer and so here is the link to that group

And in the help button are tips on completing a profile, mine is way to long probably but you can see it by clicking on my name.

if you are new to Immunotherapy there is a good video that explains what it is and how important it is to report side effects, it’s from the Lancashire hospital

    Take care KT

  • Hi . The treatment you will be getting is BCG (Bacillus Calmette-Guerin). It is a mild form of the vaccine used for TB. It sounds a lot worse than it is. Side effects are varying depending on the individual. The main side effect is the frequency to pee. Rather than me go  in to detail here, please follow the link by above and join us in the bladder group. There are many there who have had this treatment and will share their experiences. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

Thank you for your reply. I have watched the excellent video, I had forgotten that I could get rashes, and it is good to now understand how immunotherapy works.

Thank you for your reply. I am just about to follow the link that KTatHome posted. Even now, my apprehension is diminishing.
