hi folks,
totally new to all this, actually still in hospital, hopefully going going for my biopsy today to find the primary source, my secondary is in the liver. Never been so scared in all my life, can anyone help with even how to begin to process this?
Hi , welcome to the online community. I have just had a funny coincidence, I read your post and at the same time was listening to a very old SClub 7 CD of one of my daughters, (left behind after they moved out after Uni). The song was singing about when your life is wandering down ...I didn’t catch the next word ....highway, try a different point of view. It got me thinking of when I was in hospital awaiting my biopsy to happen a few days after being admitted. My head was in a different space or point of view, thinking that if I hadn’t gone to hospital things would be worse, but the biopsy and a treatment plan is the start of things moving forward and for me that felt like a good thing.
You ask about processing things, I was very lucky and had a Macmillan nurse who visited everyday just for a few minutes to check if I was ok. I am one of these people who when I read I can easily block out the rest of the world and I found that place again while having my biopsy which was into a lymph node into my back so might not be the same as yours but the nurse and drs at the biopsy were lovely.
I found this community later than you, I found the Macmillan information and support sections good to read about my type of cancer, but more useful for me were the coping emotionally info sections.
On this community it felt good to read about others ahead of me on treatment, it took a while to start my own discussion so well done you. The Wednesday wellness tips on the home page I find good wether that finding a good book to distract you from thinking 24/7 about cancer, or thinking about meditating, or head space apps,
I found to get the best out of the community,
1) complete your profile with what you feel comfortable with, to help others know a bit more about you, and I found it therapeutic to get my head around where I was at. It also good to read the profile of others replying to you to get a sense of where they are coming from.
heres a link to how to do your profile in the help section
https://community.macmillan.org.uk/help_section/w/using-the-community/413/how-do-i-update-my-profile
2) Join a group you feel comfortable with, that might be https://community.macmillan.org.uk/cancer_types/liver-secondary-cancer/discussions until they find your primary. Have a browse through the cancer experiences groups as well there is one on emotional issues.
I found things not so daunting when you felt like you weren’t the only person going through this.
Best wishes
Take care KT
