Hi my partner has prostrate cancer and will be starting his treatment on monday in hull. We live in york so will be traveling alot. My partner says hed rather stay in a b&b in hull than travel everyday, so i just wondered if macmillan have a list of cheap accomation near by or if they could help with accomation costs?

  • Hello , I’m sorry to hear about your partners diagnosis, I noticed you hadn’t had a reply yet, I’m a patient not in your area of the country but alive been on this site for a while.

i found a link to a leaflet that might help you https://www.macmillan.org.uk/_images/money-worries_tcm9-326184.pdf

It mentions Macmillan grants and how you can contact Macmillan to find out more, and what some of the qualifying conditions might be.

The community here is patients and carers and friends supporting each other but for your question I think you need to talk direct to Macmillan professionals, either your partners Macmillan nurse if he’s been given contact details of one through his hospital (like I have), they might have the local info you need and can put you in contact with a benefits adviser, or by phoning the support line 0808 808 0000 it’s open all week 9am to 8pm, they might be able to talk through things with you and find a local contact for you.

i hope this helps, and good luck with your husband’s treatment.

If you need support from others who understand or have gone through similar experiences you might want to join the family and friends group, or the carers group. I will put the links in below so that you can get to them quicker by clicking on them.
