Hi my 85 yr old dad had high psa count found at end of March. After having ct and mri scans and a biopsy taken. We had a meeting with the oncologist on Friday past. It's metastasized to his spine, ribs, hips and arms. He's not going to have chemo and had 1 treatment of radiotherapy this morning on his left hip. We're shellshocked. He is having his first visit from a Macmillan nurse tomorrow. What questions should I ask? My mum suffers from osteoporosis and dad has been the one running the house. Can anyone give me some guidance.
Hi and welcome to the online community although I'm sorry you've had to find us.
It must have been a terrible shock for you all to discover that your dad has been diagnosed with prostate cancer that has spread to his bones.
I'm sure that there are lots of questions that you want to ask and I'd suggest that you write them down before you see the Macmillan nurse tomorrow as I can guarantee that they'll go straight out of your head. You might also like to take a look at these suggested questions to do with treatment. Obviously they won't all apply to you but you could print a copy and highlight any that are relevant.
You might also like to join the secondary bone cancer group where you can share experiences and support with others with this type of cancer.
To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'join this group' on the page that opens. To ask a question or introduce yourself select 'start a discussion' and you can also respond to existing posts by clicking on 'reply'.
When you feel up to it, it would be really useful if could pop something about your dad's journey so far into your profile as it helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
