Hi all
I have my first oncology appointment next Friday. What can I expect?
I have a list of questions to ask.....ranging from returning to work to how I'll be supported emotionally!
Does everyone have different experiences of chemo treatment? Will my hair definitely fall out? I just dont know what to expect!
Thanks for any replies
Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community although I'm sorry you've had to find us
Thank you for completing your profile. It was very helpful as I was able to see that you have been diagnosed with bowel cancer.
Could I suggest that you join the bowel cancer group and post your question there as I'm sure there'll be plenty of people in that group who will be able to answer your questions.
To join, just click on the link I've created and then choose 'join this group' on the page that opens. You can then post your question by selecting 'start a discussion' and respond to other posts by choosing 'reply'.
Wishing you all the best with your treatment
x
Thank you! I've joined the bowel cancer group.
May I add my welcome to the online community and the Bowel (colon and rectal) cancer forum group and I hope you will pop over and visit us soon and you can start to ask all the questions you need
I would also invite you to join our Chemotherapy forum Group where you will be able to meet with the very friendly members who will be happy to answer your questions and share their experiences with you, no matter how small you think the question is just ask it no point in worrying about something that another member can give you the quick answer remember they've all been in your position and know how you are feeling and will give you all the help, support and advice you need if you ask.
I see you have some questions to ask next week are they same as the ones I've found for you here
questions to ask at an oncology appointment
We always suggest that someone goes along with you to your appointments as a second pair of ears and they should have a copy of the questions you want answered and make notes as the answers are given, it's amazing how many times we go to appointments and are given loads of information and when we get home the question we ask ourselves is what did he say about this and that, and the person with you can tell you because they've made notes.
The other thing to remember if you don't understand what's being said, politely stop the oncologist and ask if he could repeat it and if necessary in simpler terms.
Good luck with your appointment and I look forward to seeing you over in the bowel group where you can keep us informed how things went and how you are keeping and getting on.
My fellow champion in the bowel group, court has a lot of knowledge of Bowel (colon and rectal) cancer forum and she will be on hand to give you advice as you progress along this journey you're about to start.
Look forward to officially welcoming you into the family over in the bowel group.
Ian
