Hi everyone, I've just joined the site. I may be an adult but I live at home with my parents and my Dad was recently diagnosed with stomach cancer, it has spread slowly but it isn't operable or curable so he is starting chemotherapy next week to try and shrink it back. I'm worried how it'll react with him as he is so tough he just hides stuff and my mum is finding it very hard to deal with. He really strugfles to eat because of the tumour and as a result I find myself and my mum aren't eating proper meals either - really bad I know!

I feel like I shouldn't have anything to worry about at all and it makes me feel guilty but I'm worried about everything from his wellbeing to the dog being let out enough times in the day if he is too tired!

I just wanted to touch base really...

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community although I'm sorry for the reason that you've had to find us.

It's perfectly normal that you're worried about your dad and you really have nothing to feel guilty about. I see that you have found the stomach cancer group and you'll find that a great place to go to ask questions and share experiences with other people who have this type of cancer.

Could I also suggest that you join the family and friends group where you can share your feelings and get support. To join this group just click on the link I've created and then choose 'join this group' on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and ask questions by selecting 'start a discussion' and respond to existing posts by clicking on 'reply'.

When you have a minute it would be really useful if could pop something about your dad's journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

    Sending a supportive ((hug))
