Hello, my name is Emily and I'm 22 years old. In November I started having pain in my knee I thought i had hurt it in the gym and brushed it off but it started getting worse and worse, I eventually went to the doctor who booked me an mri as she thought it was ligament damage, the Mri was on Friday 26th of April and i was called into the doctors to discuss them immediately on Monday the 29th. they told me that I have a destructive mass in the bone of my shin that's 3 inches long and Its also spread out into my knee joint and the soft tissues around it causing the pain I was experiencing, I was on my own when they told me but my doctor is lovely and gave me a big hug. I am currently waiting for my hospital appointments to come through into start tests and treatment, I feel like in stuck in limbo at the moment I don't know what kind of cancer it is I don't know how they are going to treat me I'm just waiting and I'm not sure what to do with myself so I was hoping to speak to people that have been though the same thing and get a real idea of what's about to come for me xx

  • Hi Emily  and welcome to the Online Community, although I am so sorry to see the circumstance that brought you here and so sorry to hear that you are still without any answers.

As you say, you are in the dark and only once all the tests are done can you make plans to move forward with this. This is a stressful time as you are not in control and the mind is in a whirlwind but once you get clear information the noise will start to calm down as a plan is put together.

We do have lots of support groups that are Cancer specific and also ones that are general Cancer experience groups. I obviously can not make any assumptions as to what this is so its difficult to direct you in any specific way but you can have a look through the groups.

We do have our Bone Cancer Group so you could start with these folks.

Just join the group(s). Hit the 'Start a Discussion' tab and introduce yourself to the group - you could just copy an paste what you put in this first post.

Remember to go to the right on the group home page and select how you want to receive email notifications when someone answers your posts.

You may also find our various Macmillan Support Line Services on 0808 808 00 00 to be very helpful even if all you want to do is talk with friendly person that can help in lots of ways.

We also have our ‘Ask an Expert’ section but please allow a few days to get an reply.

We also have our Online Information and Support Section where you will find some great pages covering the cancer diagnosis, treatment and information pages covering most types of cancers - just go to the bottom of the home page and have a look through the list.

You can also do a Live Chat during normal Support Lone Working Hours 8.00 to 8.00 (Bottom Right)

Talking to people face to face can help a lot so check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support Groups in your area or a Maggie’s Centre as these folks are amazing.

    All the best.
