Hello . This is my first time posting in any online group but i am looking for some advice and or if anyone has had similar experiences.

my dad has terminal laryngeal cancer with liver lung and bone mets, he’s currently in hospital with blood clots on his lungs and had raised calcium in his blood .

i have had no support from the nurses or doctors and have only seen palliative care twice , he has been in hospital for 5 weeks but was briefly discharged last week home , and lasted two days , he is unable to care for himself and has no mobility or ability to take his meds correctly , he was home with care package and I was going in everyday .

the problem now is he wants to go home again which I feel is in no way a safe option , I cannot manage and it is not enough. Care for him , but what do I do ? When I think hospice is more appropriate but he is having none of it .

    Hi

I am so sad to hear about your dad. It sounds as if you could really do with some help.

I am one of the community champions, volunteers who help make sure new comers like yourself can find the help they need from the community.

I can suggest two places you might find support.

The first is the group supporting someone with incurable cancer. Click on the link, join the group and start a discussion and I hope the good food over there will have lots of advice and support for you

    https://community.macmillan.org.uk/cancer_experiences/nearing_the_end/

The other place to try is a call to the Macmillan helpline. It’s free and open every day. They might well be able to help you find your way through the maze of end of life services.

Finally, are you in touch with your dad’s GP? It is their responsibility to oversee the end of life care for their patients. Do give the surgery a call to see what they can do.

    wishing you all the best

    xx
