Hi everyone. I have a close friend (ex girlfriend and mother to our 2 children), who has just been diagnosed with breast cancer. Naturally she is devastated, but she seems mostly concerned with losing her hair due to the chemo she will be having in a few weeks.
She’s looking at buying vitamins from Holland and Barratt to help with her hair. Instead of her wasting money on useless stuff, can anyone recommend things/products she can buy or do herself that will help prevent hair loss? Or point me in the direction of a thread that’s similar please?
She will be trying the cold cold cap so hopefully that’ll help. I thought i’d ask here on her behalf as she is too scared to join.
Hi Mark, unfortunately it all depends on the chemotherapy your friend is having. The treatment I'm having does cause hair loss. It was hard to get my head around losing my hair, lots of emotions, anger etc. Has your friend looked into getting a wig?, there are lots of headscarves, bandanas, hats out there, which I have started to buy.
My hair has started to fall out after 1st treatment, but as my Daughter is a hairdresser, I decided to have a restyle ie cut shorter so it doesn't upset me further when it eventually falls out completely. If
I hope this helps you and your friend. Sending positive thoughts.

Hi Mark
I am sorry to hear about your friend. I don’t know of any vitamins that will help but I do know of some people who’ve been helped with the cold cap.
Have you read the info about hair loss from Macmillan? It’s here:

All the best
Also, do encourage your friend to join the community. It’s been my lifeline. If you look in the groups tab at the top of this page you should be able to find a group for her cancer type. Maybe sit with her and have a look through the relevant group?
all the best
Thanks, yea I’m going to take her to look at some wigs to see it helps calm her nerves.
