Hello,
Recently me and my partner have found out he has been diagnoses with Hodgkins lymphoma. I've joined the Macmillan community because I've had quite a few family members pass with various cancers and Macmillan have been very good to us. But although being around people who have gone through cancer and seeing the changes I'm finding it a bit difficult this time.
I think where it's been my older family members you kind of expect the older generation to pass before you so although it's not nice either way I'm finding it more difficult this time. I don't know what to say or how to make it better. We are still young he's 23. I just wanted to know if there's any groups for people who have a loved one with cancer because I don't want to get upset around him I need to try and be positive for him but I need to not bottle it up like I have in the past. I also wanted to know if there's any where I can get advice on how to be supportive of him.
Hello and welcome to the community although sorry to hear about your partner. We know how hard it is when a loved one is affected by cancer. I understand what you mean about the older generations feelings on cancer. Things have progressed rapidly over the years and it is not the threat it used to be. We have a friendly group here you may find it helpful to join Family and Friends . There you will find others with loved ones affected by cancer and who understand. For information on HL, the members of the Hodgkin lymphoma Group should be able to help. Best wishes.
Hi do join the groups suggested but also if you have a Maggie's centre near by speak to them about support they can offer, also be aware blood cancers are not like solid tumour cancers and HL has a good remission rate and the treatment they use has been used for many years so they know what they are doing. A cancer diagnosis is frightening but as you learn about it and understand more you will find this is not so scary.
Any questions just ask in the HL group and you will find lots of support I had NHL 10 years ago and was stage 4b so take hope from that and that the is life after treatment.
