Hi all .I just wondered if anyone has found anything that helps with hand tremors during steroid treatment ? My boyfriend is on a decreasing steroid treatment of  prednisone . Currently on 55mg and has had shakes for some time . For some reason the shakes have got worse the last few days even though the dosage has actually decreased. A physio recommended wrist weights but the only ones I have found are exercise ones and I think they would be very uncomfortable .Also I was thinking if getting him a revitive circulation booster for neuropathy in his feet .Has anyone tried these? If so we're they helpful   Thanks in advance

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community

I'm sorry to read that your boyfriend is experiencing hand tremors while on steroids. If you could tell us a little about what sort of cancer your boyfriend has we could hopefully point you in the right direction.

    Best wishes x

He was Treated for testicular cancer orchendectomy then 3 rounds of BEP chemo ,which ended in feb . Unfortunately he developed severe lung complications which is why he is on steroid treatment .I am trying to keep the details quite basic as he has most of the noted side effects and I do not want to put other people off treatment .

Thanks I will put a basic question on and see how it goes . I just had a quick look on that forum and every one is asking questions about how many rounds to have , that was never even a question for us .I fear If i look into that forum too much it will upset me , thats why I was trying to just ask the general question about steroid treatment . I will give it a go thanks for your advice x

  • Hi,

I come from the TC forum, but happy to answer here if its not a happy place for you to visit. I was one of those too who had no choice but the full course. Some people do have a reaction to the Belomycin, and sometimes drop to EP instead of BEP.

There's not much in the forum about using prendisolone and long terms effects from it (I can't call anything in the last 7 years).

I'll do a search and see if there is any knowledge (and if the site can cope - it's been a bit ropey for a few days - sorry for that)

Thanks G , I went over to the testicular forum and it just made me sad .I feel like crying but I cant because I dont want to upset him , havent even told him im on here .My boyfriend had 3 cycles of Bep and we were never given an option to drop it . Unfortunately the bleomicin has caused multiple issues for him. The worst one being damage to his lungs which is what the steroids are for .It was a long shot to post on here because they already told us he is really unlucky as this is very rare .x

  • Hi,

I am so sorry to hear that - its fine just to talk here. Prednisolone is more commonly used as aftertreatmny for other cancer types. There's nothing on that when I search the TC forum, Would it be ok if I asked in some other groups on your behalf (I won't say its for you), and see what knowledge we have?

(I'll also  write a short answer on the TC forum, as people tend to react to question without replies. You'll still get  a reply if someone has some knowledge, but hopefully fewer generic repiies - is that ok?)

    Morning

This is a long shot, but coming from a different angle.... 55mg is still quite a high dose.

Quite a few patients who suffer from Asthma and COPD take Prednilisone to help open up the airways and suffer hand tremors from it - So there is bound to be some information about the hand tremors issue side effect and what others found that helps with this.

Maybe worthwhile having a quick browse around some of the asthma and/or copd support sites to see if you can find some nuggets of info ?

    Take care, G n' J

Thanks loads , that makes sense because they are treating him for severe lung complications due to the bleomicin .They said they are using similar treatment as if it was pulmonray fibrosis but drug caused .Basically its extremely rare to have the reaction he has had so they are a little at a loss on how to treat it (their words not mine ) It is a very high dose but believe it or not when he was first admitted he was on 100mg ..That was awful ...I am just really hoping that this works and we can at least get down to an acceptable steroid level  and that the shakes ,weight gain ect become more manageable because although he wont admit it he is starting to get down  . Thanks again

    Gregm

any help would be wonderful , unfortunately nothing has been normal for us .It would not surprise me to hear that prendisolone isnt normally used for testicular cancer .I think they are using that because they are treating the lung damage as a pose to the cancer itself . We see the lung specialist again soon so Im hoping for some more positive news that the steroids are working .On the plus side so far the cancer treatment is working ,which is wonderful .Its just a little hard to celebrate when the side affects have been so severe and made him so ill .

    thanks again x
