Hi '
I had surgery for vulval cancer a year ago . I now have lymphoedema in pelvic area . Groins and upper thighs damaged by radiotherapy burns also. I have tried many compression garments but cannot find anything remotely suitable . All the seams irritate my skin . I just wondered if anyone else had found anything comfy ?

Hi
I haven't suffered with lymphoedema myself but I noticed that your post had gone unanswered.
While you're waiting for a response you could try using the search facility in this group to see if there are any recommendations for compression garments in older posts. You could also post your question in ask a nurse where one of the specialist nurses will try to respond within 2 working days.
Best wishes x
First have you been measured by the lymph nurse. This makes sure they will be the right one's for you. They do get some getting use to. Then the most important thing is looking after your skin. These compression garments can really dry the skin so use a good non perfume dermatological cream. I use E45 which I get on prescription. Its great for all the family to use. After shower or bath use it on your skin especially when you go to bed at night. I n fact whenever you are not using compression garment. This stops the skin drying out. So when it comes to putting on compression garment buy a good quality baby talc. So when the cream has soaked into the skin put talc either in the garment or onto you skin. Makes it much more easy to put garment on. This is what I was told to do by my lymph nurse. Do keep the skin well moisturised.
I had/have Lymphodema in my left thigh because my melanoma in that thigh had spread to the groin lymph nodes. I had them out in May 17. It became swollen in the July and had to wait to be seen by a nurse until October because the local health authority stopped funding and now is run by the local hospice. I was measured for two stockings and wore them until June 18 when my cancer returned and I had a further 16 nodes taken out of my pelvis.
I've been on Keytruda (immunotherapy) since November and was told by my surgeon just before Christmas just to massage the area. I bought a wedge overlay for my bed to raise my body and that helps, but I find it difficult to sit on a chair for a long time.
Any further advice please.
I to suffer from lymph. What I can say it does get better as you body heals. Until its healed you will experience lymph. When I get a infection now lymph starts up in both my legs. I have had a difference Cancer then you at this moment I have a tummy bug and when healthy body no lymph but now have a little lymph in both legs. McMillan have booklet which explains all about lymph. I would recommend it as it does help in explains and gives you a better understanding. Hints and tips. I have found my way of coping with it as sometimes I like you become unable to sit long. Anyway this is my way. Message legs before going to bed. I only have one pillow and don't laugh I sleep on my stomach with my feet at the ankle hanging over the edge of the mattress. This keeps my legs straight and allows any lymph to flow easily. Never at home do I sit for long unless when sat at the table eating. I stretch out on my back and slightly raised legs on cushion's. What works for me does not work for everybody. I am now 12 years since my op and as I have said different cancer than you. So get all the tips from reading and ask the nurse on here and any problems get in touch on this site. You are not alone.
