Hi I was diagnosed with a sarcoma tumor in my thigh in February {after being misdiagnosed in June last year}. I had 5 weeks of intense radiotherapy then major surgery to remove it. I was over the moon to hear that the margins were cancer free. My first scan after the surgery has shown that it has spread to my lungs and cannot be cured. I start chemo soon which will hopefully buy me some more time.
I am terrified, I am about to celebrate my 60th birthday, I am a young energetic 60 year old with a 2 year old grand daughter who I wont live to see grow up, a son with complex additional needs who will never understand what has happened to his mum. I have no idea how to cope with this. I had so many plans for the future and have worked so hard to plan and pay for these. I have always been a glass have full person full of energy and positivity. I just dont know how to get through this. I am not scared of dying but terrified of leaving my sons and grand daughter without me. I am heart broken!
Any advise on how to cope with this would be welcome.
Well I saw the Oncologist yesterday and it is worse than I thought. The tumors are on both lungs. I will start chemo soon a session once every 3 weeks 6 times, but even if I respond well he cant give me more that a year! Just have to come to terms with this. Having a party tomorrow night for my 60th, my close friends have rallied round and we are going to have as much fun as we can while I am well enough!
Thank you all for your supportive words, you are all so strong!
P.S Stella I asked about surgery but its a no no, and I was told that there are no new treatments as there is very little research into sarcoma as it is so rare.
Thanks again everyone.
Hi Purescott, I was diagnosed with incurable bone marrow cancer in March 2015 and I'm still here today, currently 3 treatments a week, every week.
What a devastating diagnosis you've had at the age of 59. I'm so sorry to read that Purescott. Hope you had a great birthday party with all your friends and family and you tried to put your diagnosis well at the back of your mind.
I'd advise you to enjoy life in the meantime and you never know what the next few months may bring. New treatments and/or cures are coming on board regularly so DON'T GIVE UP HOPE.
Good luck Prescott
