Well here I am - I've known joining this group has been on the cards for a while!
So hello everyone. I am Brian, another of the Community Champions. I was given a Prostate Cancer diagnosis in January 2022. I have been around the Community for 4.5 years. When I originally joined in 2022 I was told incurable, then "curative pathway" and then back to treatable but incurable so here I am!! At the moment, life is good, plenty of "tools left in the toolbox" yet for my future treatment. - let's crack on.

Welcome to this group Brian. I am hoping it doesn’t mean your situation has significantly worsened. As you will have gathered, incurable most certainly doesn’t mean terminal for most of us. I remember being very surprised when Sir Chris Hoy chose to describe his new diagnosis of stage 4 prostate cancer as terminal. Here’s hoping we all have many years of good life.

I was also very surprised that he chose the word terminal. I won't go into why I thought he used it though.

My joining this group has been on the cards for 4 years - mentally and physically nothing has changed - it's just now my consultant has agreed with me I can't be cured. I feel I should be here to help out where I can!
Life is brilliant - to be honest at almost 71 I feel better than ever and I am so positive it's unbelievable BUT I know the challenges to come. I have followed every step Derek took with his chemotherapy and I know about all the new treatments that are now available.
So I keep my Stage 3 diagnosis even though through a technicality I am Stage 4 - wow that's something the NHS needs to sort out!!
As for people in the spotlight - some very famous with Prostate Cancer - I am not going to name names - they need to be honest - tell the truth - yes you have been incontinent - yes your sex life has been affected, I know you are still fit - but so am I . Just be honest about how you found out, your treatment (private? - no waiting on the NHS?) and now you have come out - why not sign up with us or PCUK? YOU are the people who can help many others!!
Sorry - thanks for the welcome - I should say, happy to be here, but in reality no I am not! But hey-ho - life goes on and for me nothing has changed!
