Hi I have been diagnosed again with metastatic breast cancer, so now in my bones and lungs , not ideal but I’ve just started targeted treatment and would like to know if anyone else is on this treatment ? I feel fine but I don’t know if it’s worth it as I don’t think it as a impact on how long I have to live  would love a wee chat if anyone else is going through it .

  • Hi Weeglesga woman

Hi and welcome to this forum! it isn't a club that anyone wants to join, but it is full of lovely supportive people, with various cancers, so we all understand the situation you find yourself in.

You may get more responses to your question about targeted treatment if you post in the secondary breast cancer forum. Is it worth it? That's something you'll need to discuss with your oncologist, as they should have some information about survival rates with or without the treatment. That said, as many people on here will say....you never know! There are people who post in this forum who are living years beyond what they expected, so you mustn't give up hope!

I'm sure more people will come along and reply to you soon. It is a bit quiet on here....it tends to be at weekends.

I'm glad you're feeling fine....long may that continue!

    best wishes

Kate....also living in Scotland, as I presume you are?

  • Thank you Kate for replying Grin

I will definitely ask in the breast forum hopefully someone is on the same treatment .

I know I should be happy that they are offering some treatment  at all  they already gave me my survival rate that’s why I was in a quandary about taking it , but I have started so so I’ll see how I get on in the nxt couple weeks

  • Hi( weeglesgawoman)  Angie

Hi, Like Kate I live in Scotland too and I wish the sun did always shine! I do know the song! Welcome, I have been here longer than anyone ever expected and it was due to a Trial Drug which was Targeted Therapy. My prognosis was dire! Just 5-7 months, however I have had a completely positive response after being on the drug for just over three and a half years. Yes there were side effects and I’m living with them but the upside is I got to see my 3 grandchildren start school and the eldest is now in her second year in High School! I have lived longer in Years what they said I had to live in months! (Does that make sense).    I know I am very lucky and I am not alone in lasting beyond my expected sell by date.

I am so pleased to hear you have already started Target Therapy Treatment. Even the professionals cannot give an accurate time when someone will die and nowadays there are so many new drugs around, anything is worth a try. Never say never and never give up Hope!

    Love Annette x

  • Hi I've been on targeted treatment for over 4 years now. I too have secondary breast cancer in my lungs and spine. Diagnosed in April 2021.  Up to now the treatment  has controlled  the cancer. I'm on letrozol, ibrance and  denosumab and living  a normal life.   Hope this helps you see that the future  may not be all doom and gloom.

    Good luck with your treatment.

  • Hi Angie, I'm clear at the moment, after being told 12 to 18 months in 2019, 4and a half years off treatment and I'm still here. We all have good days and bad days but we have Hope, try to stay hopeful . As Annette said all the new drugs are doing good things and nobody knows what they are capable of. Take care and be kind to yourself.  XX

  • That is normal, seek help if you think you need it. We learn to except our new normal with time. But do be kind to yourself, have a sofa day with treats and films, get your hair, nails done go for a swim,  it all helps . Take care lovely.  XX
