Hi everyone,  hope you are keeping well,  was at hospital yesterday the doctors want to add cetuximab to my chemo as well as folfox has anyone else got any experience of this,  according to the doctors it gives you skin problems.  Thanks Joe

  • Hi Scottish Mac

Sorry I have no experience of the chemo drugs you are on, but I wanted to reply to you, as no-one else has yet!

It might be that no-one currently active in this forum has any experience of it either. I've read your profile, to see which cancer you have, to suggest that you try posting in that forum, but you haven't actually said which cancer you have!

There are forums for many different cancers, so if you post in the one for yours, you'll probably find other people on the same drugs as you, and get some replies to your question.

I hope you are doing OK at the moment!

  • Hi Kate thanks for your message l will try other forums,  l only wanted some idea of what to expect with this drug,  l have liver and colon cancer,  hope you are keeping well

  • Hi Joe, I have just seen your post, did you realise you posted it on the “New Here” Forum?

I am sorry I can’t help as chemo doesn’t work for my type of cancer (Malignant Melanoma) but I wanted to find out why your Team want to add this if if can harm your skin? Did you ask them or did they explain that to you?

I do hope someone who has experience of chemo will answer soon but as Kate said, it would probably be better posting it elsewhere. Maybe under Living with incurable cancer but under Treatment! This can sometimes be a confusing site to navigate but I’m sure you will find it! Do you already have a starting date or are you still discussing it? Good luck!

  • Hi Annette  I will try other forums to see if anyone has any experience of this drug, it's still under discussion as l really don't see the point of taking a drug that makes me feel worse, hope you are keeping well

  • Hi Joe, I’m with you! Did they explain why they thought it was a good idea to add it on? I am a bit like that just now with Gabapentin. I was meant to start with 1 a day for a week, then increase it to 2 a day and finally I had to stay on 3 a day to help with nerve pain! 1 a day made me feel as if I had a handover in the morning. ( not that I knew what that felt like!!) When I increased it to 2 a day, my hands started shaking etc. definitely didn’t like that, so went back to 1 a day! As it isn’t helping with the pain, I don’t see the point of taking it at all! Do you?

  • Hi Annette the doctors said that would help ti shirk the tumours in the colon as the liver is responding to the treatment but they are unsure about the colon as they still can't find it but it is definitely there according to the markers.

  • Hi

You can use the "search" function here to see what people have historically posted about cetuximab.   Search box is at the top of the page.  Or I did it and here's the results:  https://community.macmillan.org.uk/search?q=cetuximab#serpq=cetuximab.

Also here is the info from Macmillan on here about it, in case you haven't seen it https://www.macmillan.org.uk/cancer-information-and-support/treatments-and-drugs/cetuximab

  • Hi Joe

This is quite common drug for stage 4 colon cancer. It is a target mon anitibody. If you search for bowel cancer UK, they have an online community and experience on it. You can also search for stage 4 colon cancer on facebook and join the Bowel cancer uk group. There will be many members who had it.
