Hi, has anyone else got experience of xelox chemotherapy? If I manage to gain weight and strength that is what I think I am going to get. It was mentioned back in April and June, but as the lymph node tumours hadn't grown it was decided to wait and see what happened. Unfortunately two tumours became more aggressive and grew, the one between the windpipe and gullet is causing the issue of coughing fits. I'm in the " Last chance saloon" so I'm hoping to gain weight and strength otherwise the chemotherapy isn't an option. Reading the information on xelox is quite daunting but the oncologist said that I have to weigh up quantity of life versus quality of life. Thanks for any information. Kind regards Frank.

Not sure about Xelox Frank, but have they got you on any steroids to help with your weight? I have tumours in my neck, and they just seem to up my dose of Dexamethasone every time the tumours interfere with anything. I look like a flipping chipmunk.

Hi Stuart, I'm glad you still have a sense of humour Joy. I'm on the Dexamethasone just now, I started taking 2 a day last Thursday for 7 days. Then I'm on one a day for the next seven days. I also got codeine linctus to reduce the coughing fits, and thebligatory laxedo laxative drinks to combat the codeine linctus. I've been managing to eat more but I have to watch not to overdo it. I had the top third of my stomach removed and replaced with a bitf my pulled up intestine. If I eat too much I get early food dumping syndrome. That makes me feel bloated and faint and ready to pass out. Then about 45 minutes later I get late food dumping syndromwhich is very similar to a diabetic sugar crash. A couple of small chocolate bars sort it. Such joys lol. Kind regards Frank.

  • Time for a big hug then.  Here it comes....   Rainie x
