I'm Tony and thanks for allowing me to join.
I've been diagnosed with Stage 4 caceum bowel cancer , July 21. First symptoms ( just low iron levels) appeared in 2016 but tests failed to reveal. No other symptoms. CT colonography found large partial blockage following urgent hospital scan just Week ago. Awaiting treatment plan urgently. Stage 4 is incurable. Im aged 60, took retirement 5 Years ago. Before I was fit and had no risk factors apart from age. Up until March, I was full of energy and travelled around UK. Now I feel sick and bloated.
The late diagnosis is bad enough and I will never know if the cancer was earlier stage, 5 years ago. Now, the tumour is large it almost blocks bowel and has spread, ive lost weight and fearing complete blockage. Im not even sure if there is any suitable treatment as google paints a grim picture for my cancer stage. Because its advanced so much. I have oncologist appointment later this Month. I fear ive been written off as everything seems so slow.
I'm angry because I suspected bowel cancer 5 Years ago. But nothing was found by gastro specialist. I keep thinking of a needless death due to late diagnosis.
Take care with yourselves.
Hi Tony, welcome to the group, and sorry you're here.
Your late diagnosis certainly sounds unfortunate, but don't give up hope. We're all incurable here and a lot of us have been kicking around for years.
Stick around here, there is a lot of support and experience in the group, and we don't tend to take things too seriously.
Much love,
Stuart x
PS. Please ignore Google, if it's not out of date, then it's downright wrong.
Thanks Stuart. I will try and stick around. The moral support here takes away this lonely journey.
welcome to the forum, sorry you need to be here. According to various parts of google this forum should be deader than all of us on here. So many on this forum are either well past their doctor stated sell by date or like me and incurable but not given a sell by date yet as the docs don't know any better than I do how long I have left.
Aslk all the questions you need on here its a great forum for that. Also make notes in a notebook of any question you want to ask the oncologist then take the book with you to your appointment and note down the answers as you wont remember them 30 seconds after being given them.
Never jump to conclusions and always ask the specialist what all the options are. if you need us just shout
Richard
be safe, be nice, be you
Hi Tony, welcome. Yes it's hard not to think about what would be and so 5 years ago. But it doesn't help now. And maybe there was nothing then. So try to put your energy into getting better. If you get chemo you will need it. And about that awful due date...mine was 8 to 12 months....that was October 2015...soooo you see. We are here for you, even if you just want to yell and scream the fear off. Hugs Pet
Thanks Pet. I try and live in the current day. I think I appreciate it more. The past is gone but as my partner said;. Given the same situation, would the same choices would be made. Its still hard to accept. I keep thinking how life would be so different if doctors had done colonoscopy 5 years ago instead of the CT scans. I think i might have been cured 5 Years ago I will never know. I think of lost future and the massive life disruption now, all could have been avoided. This is how I feel right now and its hard.
