The Great Unmasking

No, I am not going to reveal that i am actually someone rich and famous. I just wondered how everyone is feeling about the lifting of restrictions on Monday next week. I am livid about it, the sheer stupidity in the face of rising infection rates and increasing strain on the NHS and exhaused staff. As we are mainly likely to be clinically vulnerable, we are especially at risk, although everyone is to some extent. I have made my feelings known to our new Health Secretary and my MP ( haven't written to him for a couple of months so I knew he would be worrying about meWink).

The talk of infections, hospitalisations and deaths is so lacking in compassion and understanding that we are talking about families and communities affected/ devastated. And the economy is struggling and I do understand the strain on some businesses, but the economy is not separate from the health of the public. A fairly obvious connection which some politicians seem unable to grasp.

I am livid about quite a lot today, and as you know I am no fan of BJ and his cohort of incompetents. Anyone else want to pitch in - I promise not to react badly if you disagree with me..

  • . Totally agree, we were going to be driven by data, surely data suggests even if restrictions ease mask wearing should still be required, today in Tesco (I know I’m judging) there were more people not wearing masks than ever, social distancing was not being observed

  • I agree to some extent, but I think that people are beginning to do their own thing anyway. Those who think they are invincible never took much notice. I shall carry on avoiding certain places and situations. But once again, the vulnerable are left feeling even more so.  Wish the bloody thing would go away x

  • I can’t stand Johnson whose doing this to make the NHS not work even more than it doesn’t already due to government underfunding it.  We should also be very worried about the Health & Care Bill due another reading in Parliament today.  Goodness knows what effect that will have on our care.  Didn’t Johnson say we’re on our own now so, if we chose not to wear masks, that’s our responsibility not his from next week.  I will continue to wear a mask of course.

  • I totally agree with you to me it's common sense to see the data is rising everyday I am so worried I would of thought wearing masks and social distance would of been compulsory I would of been happier with that some people didn't use common sense when we were in lockdown so I can't see that they will use common sense from full unlocking why can't people think about other people I feel for the nhs the backlog from cancelled operations etc what they are having to deal with and dealing with covid patients on top of everything else they deal with I take my hat of to them they are brilliant where would we be without them I think this will be the straw that breaks th camels back for the nhs I really hope it doesn't as I think we all agree on this sorry for a little rant everyone xxxx

  • Sadly as the saying goes “common sense is a flower that doesn’t grow in every ones garden”. Also people these days are selfish and don’t consider others which leaves the vulnerable to deal with it on their own. I shall keep a mask with me and use it as I see fit

  • Totally agree with you Ownedbystaffies.  I can’t really believe that they are going ahead with this ridiculous plan!

I live right on the border in Northern Ireland so we are not lifting the restrictions quite as quickly here but I am getting more and more confused, caught between NI, England and Ireland.

So I’m keeping the mask, maintaining social distancing and hoping that good sense will prevail somewhere!

    Take care

  • Hi, this is a difficult one to get right, as so many different people are affected in different ways.I personally will continue to take precautions,  but others do have to learn with this terrible  virus.

I worry more about our hospitals being understaffed because of the sensitive  track and trace system, which confines our nursing staff to isolate even when they have tested negative for COVID. My sister is in the QEH having scary but possibly life saving donor stem cell treatment for multiple myeloma, and the nursing care is seriously affecting her care, and this must be happening everywhere. Hopefully testing will replace this track and trace system very soon for health care workers as I fear more people will be lost through neglect than COVID.

  • Hi everyone. I have to agree with remoh. I, along with most of the locals in my area, will carry on wearing our masks and avoid town as much as possible. For us, lockdown continues. I live on the coast and the way a lot of visitors behave is utterly selfish. Go down the high street and you can spot the locals: they're the ones hurrying into the food shops trying to avoid everybody and get in their bit of dinner before things get busy. Many elderly residents do not use computers. The visitors largely have no masks on, even though the streets are narrow. The idea of any social distancing is laughable and it's been just like that ever since the first lockdown. I can understand the conflicting pressures faced by the government and they're damned if they do and damned if they don't. We will all have to learn to live with Covid just as we do with flu, but it's immunosuppressed people like us who will really feel it at the sharp end.

  • I agree with you. I think the pandemic has revealed the best and worst of all things. Needless deaths by the virus and more deaths from other diseases due to lockdown.
