Hi all. Just wanted to say hello and see if anyone had any thoughts for dealing with this nightmare. I was diagnosed in March this year to ‘curable’ bowel and 1 small, secondary liver cancer. Told I would have 6x chemo, then radio, then an op. 4 rounds of chemo later and I have a scan to prep for radio. Tumour has spread massively in bowel, pelvis, liver and lungs. Told I’m incurable and inoperable. I have no idea if I have 2 months or 2 years to go. I’m 43 with a young family and have no idea what to do.
Hi Willowfred, that all sounds like a terrible shock, you and your family must be shattered.
Now that you are inoperable, what treatments are being offered? Please be somewhat assured that many of us here have been inoperable and incurable for years - there are many new treatments that keep us fairly stable.
Hopefully you have adequate support from your family and your medical team. Don't be afraid to ask for whatever help you need.
I personally found great comfort from putting my affairs in order as soon as I was diagnosed. If you have a <12 month prognosis, you can probably access all of your pensions tax free, and maybe claim on any life insurance you have. Once I'd done all of that, and I was assured that my wife and children would be taken care of, I was able to give up work, and to relax and enjoy the good days.
Stick around here, there are many wise heads here who have been through it all and will give you much support.
Much love,
Stuart x
Hi willowFred and welcome to the forum, sorry you qualify to be here. As has been said get your affairs in order , check life insurance and pension to see if 5bey can be claimed earlier and then take time to breath. That’s what I did when I was told. Almost two years later I’m still here and still can’t get a letter from my consultant to say I have less than 12 months so I have one life insurance I can’t claim yet. However I have sorted my affairs and retired to make memories with my loved ones. There are many new trials and new drugs coming along all the time and a fair few people on here are well passed 5bevoriginal sell by date they were given. It’s a hell of a lot to take in and please ask as many questions as you need to on here because there’s a good chance one of us has experienced it will be able to offer there experience up to help you.

be safe, be nice, be you
Thanks to you both for helpful words. I haven’t been given a prognosis, too early to say apparently as it depends how I respond to treatment. It may be that I have a mutant tumour that requires alternatives to chemo, should have tests back for that next week. Meanwhile I can almost feel like these things are growing inside me…….
It’s truly horrible. Helps to hear from some wise people who understand.
Totally get the feeling of something horrible growing inside of you. It’s horrible knowing something you can’t control is inside you.

Yes i think most of us know that feeling and it's not nice. But see a few of us have had no surgery only treatment and we are still here...like me for over five years now. But yes the first few weeks are the hardest!!!
Hello Willowfred. I am sorry you find yourself here, but I can promise that you will not find a more helpful, comforting and sympathetic group of people than here on this forum. I can well remember the support given to me when I joined. There is an understanding here, you can ask difficult questions, say difficult things. Do you have a Macmillan nurse? Sorting your affairs is really daunting but helpful. I also found my GP was immensely helpful too. You may well be in shock, if you can find some form of counselling that may help. Take care, x
