Exhaustion

I haven't been online for a while so its good to see many familiar names. I hope you are all doing as well as possible.

For about a week or so I have started feeling really tired for no obvious reason.  I can potter for a couple of hours but then I have to sit down and rest and even sleep for an hour. At the moment I can see no sign of it easing. Last month I had to increase my pain meds (I'm now on the ceiling dose) of Morphine and Amitriptyline.) Despite sleeping during the day I sleep for a good 9 - 10 hours a night too. I've also noticed that I sometimes "jump" in my sleep. Is it possible that the 2 symptoms are connected and it be down to the level of morphine I am now on?

I try to do a few hours work a day (I am a self employed HR/Payroll adviser). I like to spend time in my garden too, particularly now spring is here, there are still some light jobs that I can do. I am really at a loss as to how I can improve my energy levels.

Has anyone else experienced similar?

Best wishes to you all

  • Hello Zestforlife, I'm not on your meds but do have chronic tiredness issues. Personally I've felt it connected to the fact that my lung damage reduces the amount of oxygen I take in. I'm aware that I now breathe differently as surgery left a lot of scar tissue and my diagphram was affected. I used to sing and am quite aware of breathing. Recently I bought a book called 'Breath' by James Nestor which is really interesting and has quite a lot of excercises in it - also there's a website. I am trying slowly to keep breathing through my nose, even in bed, and looking at ways to improve things. I think that will help with my energy levels. Might be worth a try. Take care. Rainie x

  • I’m not on morphine, but I am in amitriptlyne and it knocks me out! I can only take it at night, but then if I take it too late I feel groggy the next day. X

  • Rainie, thanks for the suggestion regarding breathing. I remember something about this from a HOPE course I attended at my local hospice last year. I will get the notes out and see if Amazon have the book.

    Wishing you continued stability

  • Chelle, I too take my Amitriptyline at night,  10pm works for me. It helps prevent pain breakthrough in the night so on balance any occasional grogginess is tolerableGrinning.

Wishing you the best of everything.
