I have done chemo and immunotherapy.  Though had a appointment today with oncologist  and was told it has started to grow slightly, so next step is Radiotherapy

Just need a little bit of advise as what to expect, it is at bottom of lung

  • Hi Ellie. I am so sorry to hear your news. I have had radiotherapy to my lung. The treatment itself is very easy. You lay on a table very much like an X-ray machine, and the machine moves around you whilst you lay still.  The first session will be a planning appointment where they measure you up and mark you with a tattoo so they know each time they are getting the right spot. The tattoo is only a little dot, nothing to worry about. The radiotherapy takes minutes. You are in and out before you know it.

The side effects vary but you may feel tired from the treatment. Your skin may also feel burnt, like sun burn, they will advise you about this and what creams to use.  You may also feel your oesophagus get sore so eating may feel uncomfortable.

I did very well on radiotherapy, and the side effects were very manageable for me with pain killers.

I hope this helps to put your mind at ease Ellie.  Wishing you all the best x

  • Hi Chelle

Thanks a lot, that is very helpful, had no idea   of what one might expect. Fear of the unknown.

    Hope your doing well.

  • They will go through all the side effects with you and give you the appropriate medication for it.

I had 6 weeks radiotherapy on my neck and had all sorts of swallowing problems

your side effects will be different. If you have coped with chemo and immunotherapy I am sure you can cope with this. 6 weeks seems a longtime  but it does come to an end xx
